How Lifting Weights Taught Me to Lift My Life

Have you ever written the same goal over and over on your to-do list, only to realize months later that you haven’t taken action? That was me with starting strength classes at my gym. For months, I jotted down thoughts about wanting to begin weightlifting. Every day, the same idea popped up during my self-coaching sessions. And every day, I didn’t take the next step.

But here’s what changed: I got tired of seeing my own indecision staring back at me.

I recently shared this story as a guest on my gym’s podcast, where I talked about how using The Life Coach School’s self-coaching model alongside the KonMari Method® helped me break through. Just as I encourage my organizing clients to declutter their physical spaces, I had to declutter my mental space.

Instead of jumping in with a rigid plan to attend three strength classes a week, I told myself: Just go once a week. Once that felt doable, I made a second class optional. That manageable approach worked beautifully. Almost 2 years later, I’m consistently showing up twice, sometimes three times a week.

Here’s the thing: Whatever keeps bothering you daily—whether it’s a cluttered home, unfinished projects, or a goal you’ve been putting off—it’s worth it to hire a coach to help you take action. Having someone guide you and hold you accountable creates space for something wonderful: new thoughts about how amazing you are for showing up and doing the hard thing. It’s a gift to your future self to stop procrastinating and start progressing.

When I didn’t show up at the gym in those early days, I’d get a quick text checking in on me. That accountability kept me going when my motivation wavered. Now, I’m proud of the consistency I’ve built, and I feel stronger, not just physically, but mentally too.

The same support and encouragement are what I offer my organizing clients. I’ll guide you through the steps, keep you accountable, and help you create a space—and a life—that reflects your goals.

If you’ve been writing “get organized” on your to-do list for too long, let’s create a plan together. You don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to figure out every step by yourself.

Your future self will thank you.
